Semaglutide FAQ's

Semaglutide belongs to a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) analogs. It was originally developed for patients with Type 2 diabetes, but when providers and pharmaceutical developers noticed how much weight their patients were losing, they began to study semaglutide exclusively for weight loss. In June of 2022, the FDA approved semaglutide for weight loss.
GLP-1's increase insulin levels when needed and reduce the unnecessary amounts of glucose that are produced by the liver. The benefits of GLP-1 analogs are reducing the speed at which the stomach digests and empties (delayed gastric emptying), appetite reduction, decreased cholesterol and blood pressure. Semaglutide prompts your pancreas to produce more insulin when blood glucose levels are high. At higher doses, it acts on centers in the brain and suppresses appetite. It signals your brain that you are full so you can lose weight without feeling like you are depriving yourself. All these functions result in weight loss. The GLP-1 agonist is the body ‘s natural way of controlling blood sugar. Managing blood sugar helps to lose weight, especially when combined with a healthy diet and exercise plan.

Your initial vial will depend upon your dose titration schedule. Your maintenance vial will last anywhere from 8-20 weeks, depending on what dose you are on.
Most patients see results in their first 2 weeks, some over a month. Everyone’s body is different. You will likely notice a change in the fit of your clothing, first.
Your medication will have an estimated time frame for usage on the label.
You should store it in the refrigerator.
Take it as soon as you remember and adjust the day the following week and so on.
Let your provider know, sometimes this is just transient the day of your injection. Take your injection at night before bed, therefore you will sleep through most of the nausea. There are prescription medications to offset this side effect. If you eat a large, heavy meal, you will be nauseous and gassy. Carbonated beverages will make you feel very bloated. You will find even smaller servings to be completely satisfying.
In addition to recommendations given in your introductory handout, you may also consider Magnesium Glycinate 500mg daily to keep you regular.
The length of treatment depends on the amount of weight you desire to lose. Many will continue on a maintenance dose, and taper over time.
